About

The Most Honorable Elijah MuhammadMuhammad University of Islam was established in 1934 by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in the city of Detroit, Michigan, and re-established in 1989 in Chicago, Illinois by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.  The Muhammad Universities of Islam were born from the need to revive, reform, and redeem those who had suffered from the mis-education of and hostility towards blacks in the public school system. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad founded the University of Islam because he knew that only a universal education rooted in freedom, justice, and equality could reverse the problems and challenges in the American educational system.

Mr. Muhammad established a vehicle that has enabled us to control the education of our children and consequently the direction of our future. Muhammad University of Islam (MUI) is a private institution of learning servicing kindergarten through twelfth grade students.  Muhammad University receives no government funding and maintains its operations through tuition, donations, and fundraising efforts by parents and patrons of the school.

Core Values

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan greeting the children of M.U.I ”One of the things that separates man from beast is knowledge. Knowledge feeds the development of the human being so that the person can grow and evolve into Divine and become one with the Creator. True education provides the proper cultivation of one’s gifts, talents, mind, body and spirit by bringing us closer to fulfilling our purpose for being, which is to reflect Allah [GOD]”

-Minister Louis Farrakhan.

Muhammad University of Islam’s philosophy is to provide our children with the essential knowledge of self and God, as recognition of God is the proper beginning point for understanding every discipline of learning.

We believe that education should not be limited to reading, writing, and arithmetic. Our children’s education should include the history of the black nation, the knowledge of all civilizations of men, the universe in which we live, and all sciences.

Tradition of Diversity

Realizing that learning is a great virtue that all of our children should become possessors of, in our offerings we stress problem-solving, initiative, and creativity. By relating the subject matter to the child, we strive to cultivate the gifts and talents of our children, and to teach them to use their gifts and talents to serve Allah (God), self, family, community, the nation, and the world.
